Castello di Amorosa was on the top of my list for our weekend in Napa, however I was slightly disappointed. It is absolutely worth seeing the castle…it is not worth tasting the wine. Unfortunately you have to pay $20 to tour and taste…there is no solo touring option. We did snap some pretty amazing photos from up here but the tasting room is in a dark, stuffy dungeon and when it is this beautiful outside who wants to be trapped in a basement? Sampling five different wines (one white and four reds)…I was very underwhelmed (but we had also just left Silver Oak…so maybe my bar was set too high).
My word of advice to anyone visiting Napa…skip majority of the gimmicky vineyards (like Castello di Amorosa) if you are more into the wine tasting part. We had much better experiences at the spots that were more focused on the wine and not the gimmick they were trying to sell us.
However…these this view was spectacular. Enjoy!
