Keeneland

Keeneland

One of the best things about Lexington is the first three weekends of April and the first three weekends of October…which translates to KEENELAND. From Wednesday to Thursday, the track is open with the first race starting at 1:05 PM and running till after 5 PM (9 races in total).

I highly recommend buying tickets for seats…it’s the difference between actually seeing the race…or seeing the race on a giant TV screen over top of a million heads. Most people like to go on Saturday’s, do a little tailgating with friends, and don’t get me wrong…that is loads of fun, but it can be extremely busy and tickets are hard to come by. So for the first time ever, we went on a Sunday and what a treat it was! Sunday Funday at Keeneland is where it’s at! Rain or Shine!

Pre-race Parade. I like to bet on the best name! (who cares about real odds?!)

Nothing says romance like a day at the races, in the rain.

Handsome husband ready to win some money! (mean while,…Wade is in the background actually picking horses and knowing what he’s doing.)

All the way around, Keeneland is a great time.

A few tips:

1.) Buy seats a few weeks out (if it’s Saturday then try to get them when the site opens.)

2.) If you are wearing heels…take a change of shoes/flats…there is some walking/standing involved.

3.) Keeneland has an app…say what?!…you can bet from your seat but you need to set it up ahead of time and I believe there is some kiosk time that may be involved.

4.) You will need cash for food and beer/alcohol and betting.

5.) You can pay $5 to park near the main gate (most tailgate here) or you can park for free in the lot out by the Keeneland barn (enter through gate 1) and there is a shuttle that will run you right to the front gate

6. Buy a program so that you can see what horses are running…there is a guide in the front if you do not know how to bet.

Below you will find two guides that I find fun (a betting guide and a do’s and dont’s of Keeneland).
