CHEW { Summer Series }

CHEW { Summer Series }

Another great Chew dinner series is in the books! A big shout out to LexEffect for the great job they do planning this entire series.

The summer event featured Chef Mark Wombles of Distilled @ Gratz Park + Heirloom with West Sixth beer pairings. The best part…other than the amazing food and good company…mother nature cooperated and kept us all dry (a little warm…but dry) for a gorgeous evening at the Hunt Morgan House.

We began with cocktail hour, featuring West Sixth’s Brett Saison and AO Session Lager paired with a smoked sausage and gazpacho.

Chew’s focus is to source all the ingredietns for the event locally from Kentucky. How great is it to think that the ingredients for all our courses came from a local Kentucky farm?? This is something I am extremely passionate about. Fresh food without all the additives is important to me…especially because I tend to eat out a lot.  I am a strong believer that the added “fillers” we eat cause weight gain and health problems.

The first dish of the evening, Watermelon Panzanella with cornbread crumbs, sorrel, and watermelon rind paired with the West Sixth Amber Ale. Honestly, I had no clue pickled watermelon rind could taste so amazing. I’m craving this dish as I type this!

Next up,  Fried Chicken with whipped potatoes and smoked peppercorn gravy topped with arugula and paired with the West Sixth IPA. I’m still stuffed from devouring this! If you haven’t ventured over to Distilled @ Gratz Park…put it at the top of your list and get the Fried Chicken and Biscuit dish! You will thank me later.

Unfortunately the sun went down as we ended the evening with our lavender scone, topped with fresh local peach preserve and topped with a scoop of ice cream and paired with the West Sixth Lemongrass Wheat  You an see it on my snap chat if you get there before 9 PM (@lovelexington).

There is one more event in the 2015 CHEW series that will feature Chef Mark Jensen (of Middle Fork) and will have local Bourbon pairing to take place in November. This will sell out so get your tickets early (here) and they are only $40! Three courses and  bourbon pairings for $40 people…this is a steal and a great time!

Thanks again to all the sponsors that help make this event happen! { presenting sponsor Whole Foods Market Lexington Green;  series sponsors Hamburg Vision Center and Nussbaum Long Term Care Planning & Insurance }

    I thought that was you! I almost came over and introduced myself, but I couldn’t convince myself if it was you or not. We’re hoping to come to the Middle Fork one, so I’ll be sure to look for you then! 🙂 The food last night was great, but that dessert was incredible!! Thanks for introducing me to this event – it was your blog that got us there last night.

      Hi Danielle! If there’s a handsome bearded man close by with a camera you almost guarantee it’s me 🙂 I’m hoping to make it out too. I’m a huge Mark Jensen (and bourbon) fan! I’m glad I could help introduce you to something so great. I really love what LexEffect is doing here.

      …I still want another bowl of that watermelon start (I ate Jesse’s pickled rinds too).
