Bourbon Ball Moonshine.

Bourbon Ball Moonshine.

Moonshine (noun): a illegally distilled homemade whisky, usually with a very high alcohol content. It got its name because it was normally distilled at night “by the light of the moon.” Most “moonshine” is distilled in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia (…Thanks urban dictionary.)

Don’t worry…Kentucky Moonshine from Rabbit Hole Distilling (a new Louisville distillery) is perfectly legal and perfectly delicious. I’ve sampled moonshine before but this Bourbon Ball flavored Moonshine is something to write home about.

Bourbon Balls, for those of you who have not had one before (if this is you…stop what you are doing…speed to liquor barn…get a little Woodford bourbon ball box…devour…come back and finish reading) are tasty little chocolate balls with a bourbon cream center. They are pretty much candy at it’s finest. I’ve devoured many-a-boxes of bourbon balls…but I was still curious as to what this moonshine would taste like.

I poured myself a little sample over rocks last night and WOW (I think my exact words were “oh wow…that is good”) it hits your lips like a smooth bourbon and fills your mouth with chocolate….just like a bourbon ball.

Rabbit Hole Distilling released their moonshines just over a month ago on Kentucky Derby Eve (fitting, huh?) with four flavors: Bourbon Ball, Rose, White Pepper, and Cardinal Sin. Want to grab yourself a bottle? Head on over to the closest liquor barn to pick on up.

I seriously cannot stop thinking about this Bourbon Ball Moonshine, quite enjoyable just over rocks or possibly with a few scoops of ice cream floating in it on a hot summer’s day.
